Governing Document

Rules & Regulations

Key clauses from the BUEAA Constitution, registered under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act, 1960.

The Association is named the Bangalore University Economics Alumni Association (BUEAA, Bengaluru), headquartered at the Department of Economics, Bangalore University, Jnanabharathi Campus, Bengaluru–560056. Any person above 18 years who has completed MA, M.Phil, PhD or Post-Doc in Economics from the Department, or Bangalore University's former PG Centre at Kolar, is eligible for membership, with full voting and contesting rights at the General Body Meeting.

The President, Vice-President, General Secretary, Treasurer and Joint Secretary, along with not more than 25 Executive Members, constitute the BUEAA office bearers. The successive Chairperson of the Department of Economics serves as President; permanent and alumni faculty members are default Executive Committee members in addition to the elected Executive Committee.

A General Body Meeting (GBM) is held annually in June/July. Office Bearers and Executive Committee members are elected, selected or nominated for a two-year term. The quorum for a General Body meeting is one-third of total membership; for an Executive Committee meeting, one-third of the total EC. Voting is by show of hands or secret ballot. Twenty-one days' clear notice is given for the Annual GBM and any Special GBM.

The official year runs from 1 April to 31 March. Assets, liabilities and the balance sheet are placed before the Annual General Body Meeting for confirmation and filed with the Registrar of Societies. Accounts are duly audited annually by a Chartered Accountant, with auditor remuneration fixed at the Annual GBM.

The Executive Committee manages funds and property, publishes the annual report, forms regional centres, appeals for and raises funds, accepts grants and donations, appoints and manages staff, and arranges publication of memorial lectures, journals and documents in furtherance of the Association's objectives. The Committee meets monthly, or earlier as business requires.

If dissolved, remaining assets shall never be distributed among members but transferred to a similar charitable society recognised under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961. The Association, once formed, is irrevocable. Its benefits are open to all irrespective of caste, creed or religion, and its funds are solely utilised for its objectives — never for member profit, interest or dividends. Working hours are 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
